About The Lamp and The App

This Lamp is pretty impressive. Together with it’s App, it makes for a really responsive product. But add to that Amazon Alexa or Google Home Assistant and you’ve got a Lamp that is easily comparable to the Philips Hue Type. But let’s not forget, you don’t need any expensive Hub for this little beauty. I already have the Philips Hue system at home. If only these lamps had been available when i bought it, i wouldn’t have had to spend such a fortune on lighting; it must have cost me hundreds over the years. It would be so good to see this Manufacturer developing a GU10 lamp similar to the HUE one’s and they’ll really be onto a winner then. The only thing this Lamp doesn’t do is work with IFTTT, but there are ways around this through Alexa and Google Assistant.

Connecting the Lamp

I love my Amazon Alexa, it’s like having a remote on the tip of your tongue. So sorry, but i can’t comment on Google Home Assistant as i’ve never used one of them, but i can tell you about Alexa. So, when you first put power to the lamp you need to set in into pairing mode to connect it to your Wi-Fi. This is done through the Smart Life App which is downloadable from your devices App Store.

Next, set yourself up an account with Smart Life and log in. Hit the Plus button in the top right of the app. Set the Lamp into pairing mode. Pairing mode is achieved when the lamp is flashing on and off every second, (Start with it switched on. Then switch it off and on-once every second, for three times). Confirm this on the App and then link to your 2.4GHz Wi-Fi connection. You will receive confirmation on your device when your Lamp is connected.

Using with Amazon Alexa

Now that your Lamp is connected to the App and you are enjoying exploring what you can do with it. It’s time to link it to Alexa. Open your Alexa App on your device and add the Smart Life Skill. Enable it and log in to your Smart Life account, then press the discover items button. Alexa will take around 20 seconds and tell you on your device that discovery has completed and how many items were found. Looking down your list of items you should find the Smart Lamp you set up. Now tell Alexa to set that Lamp to Blue or Red or Yellow. Working?, then your done. Not working, go back and follow the instructions to the letter

What’s it like to use?

A wonderful atmosphere can be created, especially with several of these lamps set up as a group and controlled by saying something like. Alexa it’s time for Romance. Or Alexa set a lovely deep purple colour in the bedroom, using two of those lamps as a group. The App will allow you to set an infinite ambiance of brightness and colour to suit your own mood. Alexa can intercede to set the mood even further with some of your favourite music. You never need touch a light switch again and you have a Lamp that can act like 100 different Lamps, just the thing for every occasion.

In conclusion

I think this is a great item. It’s easy to use and set-up, looks great, it’s not expensive and you can have a lot of fun finding your favourite settings and mood. For me it deserves 5 out of 5.
