The Technology.

Strix Control:-

Strix Ltd. is the world’s leading designer and manufacturer of temperature controls and cordless interfaces for electric kettles and other fluid-heating and water-boiling appliances. The Strix connection and thermostat system that we know today, was brought into being by John C Taylor,  born 25th November 1936, in Buxton, Derbyshire. The device is within the plate that the kettle sits on.  It consists of three bi-metal circuit breakers – two dry boil safety switches and one main switch that works with a steam vent. So hot steam has to enter the electrical compartment in the base of the kettle for it to switch off automatically – a bit surprising. 304 Stainless Steel:-

Type 304 Stainless Steel is the most widely used austenitic stainless steel, and it’s also known as “18-8” stainless steel because of its composition – it includes 18 percent chromium and 8 percent nickel. Type 304 has the ability to form and weld particularly well, together with strong corrosion resistance and strength, this makes it the ideal candidate for use in the food industry. So it’s ideal for brewing, milk processing, and wine-making, as well as in pipelines, yeast pans, fermentation vats and storage tanks.

What is it like to use?

This is a great looking kettle, modern and sleek, it has a few features that you don’t always see on on the average kettle. Not only does it have 5 different temperature settings, but also a keep warm function. Temperature settings are 60°, 70°,80°, 90° & BOIL.
We tested the heat with a thermometer to see how closely the heat was to the setting that we pressed. It worked fairly well but we didn’t find it to be that accurate. The keep warm function works great though, coming on at regular intervals to keep the water at the temperature that you have selected
I think these features could be very helpful if you have a baby and you are needing to heat a bottle during the night. The lowest setting would be fine to be used for warming a bottle of some food. Another good feature is the automatic shut off when the tank runs dry, also when the kettle is in the heating process if it’s lifted of its base.
I found the water gauge was clear and easy to read, even with my bad eyes. The kettles handles is blackout’s quite chunky and easy to grip, good for anyone who has problems with the strength of their fingers. The filter is also a nice feature which helps with any loose scale which may form. The spout is a good shape which makes for a nice pourer.

In Conclusion.

This is a great product for a very reasonable price, it seems to be well made and very sturdy, it also looks modern. Apart from the incorrect temperature issues it works well, is reliable and has some great features built in. We found it a pleasure to use and have no hesitation in giving it 4 out of 5
