The Technology.

Bluetooth 4.1

The Bluetooth SIG (Special Interest Group), released Bluetooth 4.1 as an incremental software update to Bluetooth 4.0 on 4 December 2013. This update incorporated the Bluetooth Core Specification Addenda (CSA 1, 2, 3 & 4) in this, new features were added that improve consumer usability. Including increased co-existence support for LTE and bulk data exchange rates.

The Name Bluetooth came from the 10th-century, second king of Denmark, King Harald Bluetooth; who was famous for uniting Scandinavia just as we intended to unite the PC and cellular industries with a short-range wireless link. Copyright © 2017 IDG Communications, Inc.

IPX4

IP Code – International Protection, IEC standard 60529, (also known as Ingress Protection), classifies and rates the degree of protection afforded against intrusion be it by body parts such as hands and fingers, accidental contact, dust and water of mechanical casings and electrical enclosures. It is published by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC). (excerpts taken from Wikipedia).

Our code IPX4 is therefor represented as follows.

The first digit; which is usually a number, is replaced with the letter X as insufficient data has been gathered to assign a protection level.

The second digit 4 gives protection against Splashing of water and is defined as follows. Water splashing against the enclosure from any direction shall have no harmful effect. This test is usually carried out using either method: a) an oscillating fixture, or b) A spray nozzle with no shield. Test a) is conducted for 10 minutes. Test b) is conducted (without shield) for 5 minutes minimum.

Now to the Sound Quality.

Well, i really put them through their paces. Using a Benchmark test and some of my favourite listening tracks. How did they perform, well let’s see.

Please Note:- I am 57 and peoples hearing change as they get older, so this is just the results that i found with my delicate ears. The Headphones were tested with flat equalisation. Tests performed using 24-bit/96kHz FLAC on a FiiO X3 2nd edition.

Benchmark Test

Frequency response stated:- 20Hz – 20kHz.  I found heard frequencies of 20Hz – 10kHz

Spectral Flatness:- Did the Headphones perform with equal volume across a full Spectral frequency sweep. The sound was centred across the full spectrum until the top end where it wavered a little.

Dynamic Range:- 66 dBFS (decibels below full scale).

Quality Test:- (Bass Shaker) The sweeping tone sounded clear across all frequencies. There was no parasitic buzzing or rattling, sometimes associated with lower priced headphones.

Driver Matching:- (All frequencies swept from 10 Hz up to 10 kHz. at exactly the same sound levels in both earphones) The tone mostly held it’s central position until the top end of the spectrum.

Correctly wired:- (left plays on left and right on right) yes correct.

Polarity Preserved:- (wired in phase) Yes.

Binaural Test:- (a knock to a wooden door, first right then left) The Knocks were well defined and quite lifelike.

Listening Test.

Last but not least, I always listen to my favourite music. How does it sound? I know how it usually sounds. (Tracks used for this were as follows)

Izzy Bizu – Talking to you. Adele – Hello. Michael Jackson – She’s out of my life. 10cc – I’m not in love. Michael Jackson – Don’t stop ’til you get enough. A-ha -Hunting high and low. Gwen Guthrie – Ain’t nothin’ going on but the rent. Al Jarreau – Where in this love together. Iona – Here i stand. Patti Austin/Quincy Jones – “Betcha’ Wouldn’t Hurt Me”. Phil Collins – In the air tonight. Pink Floyd – Shine On You Crazy Diamond. Monique Miller – At last. Gino Vannelli – Black and Blue.

So, what are they like to use?

Being truly wireless seems to be a real big deal lately, i know theres nothing worse than when your intently listening to a detailed piece of music, only to hear the cord dragging or it pulling as you move around in your seat. So with these that’s a thing of the past. I also found them to be ideal for running or using in the gym with absolutely no wires at all to hold you back. The Bluetooth 4.1 on these (according to the seller), offers a stable connection at a distance of up to 66ft(20m). They are compatible with most Bluetooth enabled devices, such as your smartphone, tablet, or computer. I found the signal clarity to be equally as good as being wired. They were quick and easy to pair with any of my devices, I had no loss of sound or any interference, just really quality sound.
This popular in-ear design is really comfortable, which I didn’t expect. The adjustable and fexible silicone earhooks wrapped around my ears which gave me a feeling  of security more stability. You’ll find it hard for these to become dislodged when your taking physical exercise. The passive noise cancellation was fairly good, but could have been improved with some memory foam earbuds being included. The sound quality is good, but not fantastic, the bass is there but not as deep as i like it to be. The mid-tones were clear and mellow but the treble was a little too bright in my opinion. The sound-stage produced by these was reasonable but not that wide. Not bad for the fact that they are a budget pair of earphones.

In Conclusion.

This is a good pair of headphones which could be made better with the addition of some memory foam earbuds. The sound is of good quality, but not the best i’ve heard at this price point. They are comfortable but you only get 4 hours of listening before they need a charge. Not the best for a long journey. I feel they deserve 4 out of 5
