So, who would use this item?
Well, anybody really. but i think it would be well suited to those needing a little extra prompting. Memory is something that diminishes over time and as a helpful aid you can set up to 3 timers on this device to carry out a function of your choosing whenever you wish. I recorded a message to remind my father to take his medication and at the same time the screen played some photographic memories for him.
What’s it like to use?
Actually, very easy. It’s icon driven menu is easy to follow and activate using the provided remote control or onboard buttons. Choose from Photo’s, Music, Video, Calendar & Settings.
Within Photo’s you can browse and view a particular shot & set up a Slideshow. Determine the length of time each shot remains on screen, Enable or Disable the Slideshow mode (this will display your photos on screen, each time scrolling to the next with a differing effect). Choose to Enable or Disable the repeat mode (selectable with Off, one or all)
Create playlists (with your computer), to suit your mood, bring back memories or just listen to Albums. You can Let the tracks roll on by, choose to repeat a track or repeat them all. Skip froward, back and adjust the volume up and down. You can also display info about the current track playing if you wish.
Video can be played from many sources, A/V in, HDMI, SD Card or a USB dongle. I have tried both SD & USB up to 128GB and they work fine. the A/V socket works just as well. But i am most impressed with the HDMI socket, this means that your TV, Sky or Virgin box can be displayed in this screen instead of the TV. For anyone with poor eyesight who needs a close up screen, this is wonderful. The quality of the picture for such a small screen is truly brilliant too. With over 720P it’s really detailed.
This icon when enabled displays screen shot of the month on the right with the day highlighted. Above is the date month and year in numbers. To the left you have the time with a rolling slideshow of your photos. I do like this layout.
So to settings, where you can set the time and date, various options for the display, controls for the photo screening. Timers, auto power, play and a factory reset. As well as these settings being controlled by remote, there are also buttons to the back of the monitor if the remote happens not to be handy.
I think this is a great item, well worth the price paid. Ideal for taking on holiday with that SD Card or USB Dongle. It would work as a Bedside Alarm clock, wake to your favourite music. A reminder for someone who needs a little reminder now and then to do something. It’s great with HDMI as a smaller TV screen to even with a Thin Client Mini PC as a computer screen. It has loads of uses and i have no hesitation in giving it the full 5*’s
